Grizzlies' Cam Spencer: Limited to start preseason
Grizzlies general manager Zach Kleiman said Monday that Spencer recently suffered an ankle sprain and will miss the beginning of preseason, Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.com reports.
Spencer was shut down at the end of the Summer League with a minor ankle sprain, but it's unclear if this is related. A second-round pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, Spencer was already facing an uphill battle to crack the rotation before this injury.

Grizzlies' Cam Spencer: Dealing with minor ankle sprain
Spencer has been shut down for the remainder of Summer League due to a minor ankle sprain, Drew Hill of The Daily Memphian reports.
Zach Edey (ankle) has also been shut down, but both rookies are expected to be 100 percent healthy for training camp. Spencer, a second-round pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, was a sharpshooter in college at UConn but will have an uphill battle to make Memphis' initial rotation as a rookie.

Grizzlies' Cam Spencer: Shoots well from distance
Spencer tallied 11 points (4-8 FG, 3-5 3Pt), three rebounds and one steal over 19 minutes in Monday's 97-95 loss to the Jazz in the Salt Lake City Summer League.
Spencer played to his strengths in his first Summer League action, scoring nine of 11 points from beyond the arc. It's well known that the rookie out of UConn can knock down big shots, as he converted on 44.0 percent of his tries from three during his final collegiate season, so look for the guard to continue to fire from long distance during his transition to the next level. Spencer also showed upside on the glass Monday night by snagging three rebounds despite there being a shortage behind Zach Edey's 15-rebound performance.

Grizzlies' Cam Spencer: Agrees to two-way deal
Spencer signed a two-way contract with Memphis on Monday.
Spencer was drafted with the No. 53 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft and has since put pen to paper on a two-way deal. This contract will allow him to continue his development and see regular playing time in the G League while also making him available to contribute at the NBA level as needed.

Grizzlies' Cam Spencer: Headed to Memphis
The Grizzlies selected Spencer with the No. 53 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
Spencer was a five-year collegiate player who stepped into the spotlight after transferring to UConn for his final season in 2023-24. He helped lead the Huskies to their second straight national title, averaging 14.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.5 steals over 33.0 minutes per contest in 40 total appearances. If Spencer is able to carve out a career at the NBA level, it will likely be on the back of his elite shooting ability, as he converted 44 percent of his 5.6 three-point attempts per contest at UConn.
