Warriors' Gary Payton: Picks up player option
Payton exercised his $9.1 million player option for the 2024-25 season Wednesday, Kendra Andrews of ESPN.com reports.
By exercising his player option, Payton will be on the books for the upcoming season and will now be able to negotiate a possible contract extension with the Warriors. Payton has had some tough luck with injuries in recent seasons, but he's invaluable to the Warriors for his perimeter defense. In 44 regular-season appearances in 2023-24, Payton averaged 5.5 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 0.9 steals in 15.5 minutes per contest while shooting 56.3 percent from the field.

Warriors' Gary Payton: Out for Play-In Tournament
Payton (calf) has been ruled out for the Play-In Tournament, which starts Tuesday in Sacramento, Kendra Andrews of ESPN.com reports.
If the Warriors beat the Kings on Tuesday, they'd play the loser of a Pelicans-Lakers matchup, but Payton won't be able to play in that game if Golden State advances. The defensive-minded guard missed the final three regular-season contests due to a left calf strain, and his missing bench minutes will likely be absorbed by Brandin Podziemski, Chris Paul and maybe Moses Moody.

Warriors' Gary Payton: Won't play Sunday
Payton (calf) is out for Sunday's game against the Jazz.
Payton will end the regular season on the sidelines, but he hasn't been ruled out for the Play-In Tournament yet. Payton averaged just 5.5 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game across 44 bench outings in 2023-24, so he shouldn't carry a lot of fantasy upside when he's available once again.

Warriors' Gary Payton: Officially available vs. Utah
Payton (ankle) is available for Sunday's game against the Jazz, Anthony Slater of The Athletic reports.

Warriors' Gary Payton: Probable vs. Utah
Payton is probable to face the Jazz on Sunday due to a left ankle impingement.
Payton could be one of the beneficiaries of the absence of Stephen Curry (rest) for Sunday's contest. Even if that's the case and he experiences an uptick in minutes, he should remain an option off the bench for Golden State.
