On The Diamond: Reds vs. Indians

Top Tyler Callihan News

  • Reds' Tyler Callihan: Sent to minor-league camp

The Reds optioned Callihan to Triple-A Louisville on Monday.

Callihan was added to the 40-man roster in November, but given that he has only four games of experience above the Double-A level in addition to the fact that Cincinnati is well stocked in the infield, he never looked like a serious threat to break camp with the big club. The 24-year-old will likely spend the majority of the season at Louisville after slashing .271/.345/.413 with eight home runs and 21 steals over his 282 plate appearances at Double-A Chattanooga in 2024.

  • Reds' Tyler Callihan: Added to 40-man roster

The Reds selected Callihan's contract from Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday.

Callihan has only played four games above Double-A, so he probably won't be up in the majors early this season, but he had a strong showing last year in the upper minors. A utility player who moves between second base, left field and first base, Callihan slashed .276/.359/.429 with nine home runs and 22 steals in 73 games, primarily at Double-A.

  • Reds' Tyler Callihan: Makes season debut

Callihan (elbow) made his season debut with Single-A Daytona on Tuesday, starting at second base in the team's 2-0 win over Dunedin while going 1-for-2 with a two-run home run.

Calihan was sidelined for just under a year while recovering from Tommy John surgery. The 21-year-old didn't take long to make an impact in his return, as he swatted the home run in his first at-bat of the day.

  • Reds' Tyler Callihan: Out following Tommy John surgery

Callihan is recovering from Tommy John surgery, J.J. Cooper of Baseball America reports.

The 21-year-old infielder had an impressive start to the season with Low-A Daytona, hitting .299/.351/.437 with two home runs, five steals and a 13:8 K:BB in 99 plate appearances. He last played on June 1, so he presumably had the surgery in June. Given that he is a position player, Callihan could be ready for spring training next season.
