Cardinals' Arquimedes Gamboa: Signs minors deal with St. Louis
Gamboa signed a minor-league contract with the Cardinals on Monday.
Gamboa's deal isn't believed to include an invitation to MLB spring training, though he presumably would be headed for Triple-A Memphis to begin the season regardless of whether he received an invite or not. The 25-year-old spent the 2022 campaign with the Giants' Triple-A affiliate in Sacramento, slashing .239/.337/.349 with four homers and 28 RBI across 296 plate appearances.

Phillies' Arquimedes Gamboa: Outrighted to alternate site
The Phillies outrighted Gamboa to their alternate camp site Tuesday.
Gamboa lost his spot on the Phillies' 40-man roster when he was designated for assignment last week, but he'll remain a member of the organization's 60-man roster pool after he went unclaimed off waivers. The 22-year-old shortstop saw most of his action at Double-A Reading in 2019, batting just .188 while stealing 21 bases on 29 attempts.

Phillies' Arquimedes Gamboa: Designated for assignment
Gamboa was designated for assignment by the Phillies on Friday.
The move creates space on the 40-man roster for the team to add Phil Gosselin. Gamboa has been considered an interesting prospect at times, but primarily for his glove and legs, as his bat is yet to come around. He stole 21 bases in 113 games for Double-A Reading last season but hit just .188/.305/.270. Whether or not another team wants to take a chance on the 22-year-old in hopes that he'll eventually figure out how to hit remains to be seen.

Phillies' Arquimedes Gamboa: Optioned to Double-A
Gamboa was optioned to Double-A Reading on Monday, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic reports.
Gamboa was able to spend the beginning of spring training in major-league camp, but he'll unsurprisingly report to Double-A to prepare for the start of the season in the minors. The 22-year-old went 4-for-14 with one home run and three RBI this spring, but he'll need to generate production over a larger sample size before he's able to progress in the minor-league system.

Phillies' Arquimedes Gamboa: Optioned to Double-A
Gamboa was optioned to Double-A Reading on Saturday, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic reports.
As a member of the 40-man roster, Gamboa got to spend the first part of spring training on the big-league side, though he was never in contention for a roster spot. He spent the full season at High-A Clearwater last year, hitting a weak .214/.304/.279, but will nonetheless get to try his hand at a higher level this year. His glove will continue to be his carrying tool, but he'll need to do at least something with his bat if he's ever to make an impact at the highest level.
