Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Sent to Triple-A
The Cardinals optioned Gorman to Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday.
Gorman's strikeout rate on the season ballooned to 37.6 percent after he went 0-for-4 with three punchouts in Tuesday's loss to the Brewers. Strikeouts are nothing new for Gorman, but this season, they haven't been accompanied by much production, with the 24-year-old's OPS cratering to .671 after an .805 mark in 2023. With Gorman out of the picture, Brendan Donovan should see most of his playing time at second base moving forward.

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Absent from lineup
Gorman is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest in Cincinnati, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
Gorman had started each of the last six games versus right-handers, but he'll begin Wednesday's contest on the bench as the Reds go with a right-handed opening pitcher in Emilio Pagan and a right-handed bulk reliever in Carson Spiers. Brendan Donovan will handle second base for the Cardinals.

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Back on bench vs. lefty
Gorman is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Reds.
The lefty-hitting Gorman had started in each of the Cardinals' last five games, but he'll head back to the bench Monday with the Reds sending southpaw Andrew Abbott to the hill. The Cardinals should continue to frequently shield Gorman from lefties, but after he went 5-for-14 with two doubles over his last four starts, the 24-year-old might have recaptured at least a part-time role against right-handed pitching.

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Posts three hits in loss
Gorman went 3-for-4 in Saturday's 8-3 loss to the Royals.
Gorman was the only Cardinal with multiple hits Saturday, but they were all singles. He lost his grip on a starting role to begin August, but he's bounced back to feature in the lineup in five straight games, including once against a left-handed pitcher. Gorman has gone 6-for-18 in that five-game span, though he's still struck out five times. The second baseman is at a .206/.276/.410 slash line with 19 home runs, 50 RBI, 42 runs scored, six stolen bases and 15 doubles over 104 contests.

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Absent from starting nine again
Gorman is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets.
For the fifth time in six games, the lefty-hitting Gorman will head to the bench. Though his absence from the lineup against Mets lefty Sean Manaea isn't particularly surprising, the lefty-hitting Gorman looks to be at risk of losing out on starts against righties following the trade-deadline addition of Tommy Pham. With Pham picking up starts in the outfield in both of St. Louis' last two matchups with righties, Gorman was included in the lineup for one of those contests and ceded second base to Brendan Donovan in the other game.

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Sitting versus lefty again
Gorman is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs.
Gorman has now been out of the lineup six times over the Cardinals' last eight games. This is the fifth time he's sat against a lefty over that stretch, as Shota Imanaga will take the ball for the Cubs on Thursday. Among St. Louis' left-handed bats, it's clear Gorman is among the lowest on the totem pole right now.

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Playing time drying up
Gorman is absent from the lineup for Friday's contest versus the Cubs.
Gorman has now been in the lineup just twice across the Cardinals' last nine games. They have faced five lefties over that span, but this will be the second time during the stretch he's sat out versus a righty, as Javier Assad will be taking the ball for the Cubs on Friday. Meanwhile, each of Brendan Donovan's past five and seven of his last eight starts have come at second base.

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Out of lineup again
Gorman isn't in the lineup for Wednesday contest versus the Rangers, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
The Cardinals are facing a lefty in Andrew Heaney, and the lefty-hitting Gorman is now on the bench for a fourth straight matchup with a southpaw. He's exiting the starting nine five times across the last seven games, even sitting once against a righty during that span. Brendan Donovan will occupy second base Wednesday.
