The Twins optioned Funderburk to Triple-A St. Paul on Saturday.
Funderburk was reinstated from the IL on Friday after battling an oblique strain for over two months, but he'll lose his spot on the active roster after allowing four runs in one inning during Friday's loss to Baltimore. Diego Castillo was recalled from St. Paul to fill the opening in Minnesota's bullpen.

The Twins reinstated Funderburk (oblique) from the 60-day injured list Friday, Bobby Nightengale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Funderburk hasn't pitched for the Twins since July 12 after being diagnosed with a strained left oblique. He'll return to the active roster ahead of the team's final series of the regular season. Funderburk allowed eight runs in 5.1 innings during his rehab assignment with Triple-A St. Paul, though six of those runs came in one appearance. Jair Camargo was optioned to St. Paul in a corresponding move.

The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of DaShawn Keirsey. Funderburk resumed throwing in late August as he works his way back from a left oblique strain but now isn't eligible for activation until late September.

The Twins placed Funderburk on the 15-day injured list Sunday with a left oblique strain.
After being called up from Triple-A St. Paul on June 21, Funderburk made six appearances out of the Minnesota bullpen and gave up seven earned runs over 9.1 innings before sustaining the oblique injury. Twins' Kody Funderburk: Records first career save
Funderburk earned a save against the White Sox on Monday by pitching a perfect 11th inning.
Primary closer Jhoan Duran was deployed to keep the game tied in the 10th frame, leaving Funderburk the opportunity to close things out after Minnesota scored twice in the top of the 11th. The southpaw was successful in doing so, retiring the side in order on 12 pitches. The save was Funderburk's first as a major-leaguer, but it's unlikely he sees many more opportunities with Duran and Griffin Jax locked in as the team's top high-leverage options.

He had the best strikeout rate of his career last season at Triple-A (13.0 K/9) with a strong walk rate. He could stick in the major-league bullpen if he has a strong start to the season.
