  • Rangers' Winston Santos: Placed on Double-A IL

Santos was placed on the minor league 7-day injured list Wednesday with a back injury, Kenndi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Santos suffered a stress reaction in his back and is estimated to be out for at least 8-to-10 weeks. The organization wants a second opinion, but the plan for now is rest and recovery. The 23-year-old right-hander had a promising 2024, when he posted a 3.67 ERA between stops at High-A Hickory and Double-A Frisco. He also pitched in the All-Star Futures Game. In his two starts this season for Frisco prior to the injury, Santos had a 3.18 ERA with 11 strikeouts across 5.2 innings.

  • Rangers' Winston Santos: Sent to Frisco

The Rangers optioned Santos to Double-A Frisco on Sunday.

Texas protected Santos from the Rule 5 Draft over the winter by adding him to the 40-man roster, but the 22-year-old righty is still in need of some further seasoning in the upper levels of the minors before making his MLB debut. He'll return to Frisco to open the 2025 campaign after he turned in a 4.89 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 57:14 K:BB over 46 innings last year.

  • Rangers' Winston Santos: Joins 40-man roster

The Rangers selected Santos to their 40-man roster Tuesday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Santos started the 2024 season in High-A Hickory, but he advanced to Double-A Frisco after putting up a 2.80 ERA in 12 starts. Santos put together a 5-3 record, 4.89 ERA and 1.15 WHIP across 10 starts at Frisco while generating a 57:14 K:BB across 46 innings. The 22-year old is now protected from the Rule 5 Draft.

  • Rangers' Winston Santos: Excels in second Double-A start

Santos gave up one unearned run on two hits and a walk while striking out seven over five innings in his most recent start for Double-A Frisco on July 5.

Santos gave up five earned runs in his first Double-A start June 28, but he righted the ship in his second start for the RoughRiders. He also tossed a scoreless inning in the Futures Game, giving up a hit while striking out a batter and walking one. Santos leaned on a mid-90s four-seam fastball, a slider and a cutter during the Futures Game, and he has reportedly thrown a changeup in the past. The 6-foot righty logged a 2.80 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 81 strikeouts in 64.1 innings over 12 starts for High-A Hickory before getting promoted to Double-A on June 25.
