Giants' Wade Meckler: Makes return to spring lineup
Meckler (concussion/neck) will start in left field and bat ninth in Monday's Cactus League game against the White Sox.
Meckler will pick up his first start since March 9, when he exited in the first inning of a game against the Cubs after suffering a neck strain and a concussion while attempting to make a diving catch in the outfield. The 24-year-old was seemingly cleared a few days ago, as he was used off the bench as an outfielder in three straight games Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Meckler remains in the mix for a spot on San Francisco's Opening Day roster as a reserve outfielder.

Giants' Wade Meckler: Out with neck strain, concussion
Meckler was diagnosed with a concussion and a mild neck strain after being re-evaluated Monday, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Meckler sustained the injuries in Sunday's Cactus League game against the Cubs, when he was removed from the contest in the first inning after falling hard to the ground while unsuccessfully trying to reel in a line drive off the bat of Ian Happ. Though neither injury is believed to be a long-term concern, Meckler likely won't be available to play for at least a few days, and the missed time could hurt his chances of winning a reserve outfield spot on the Giants' Opening Day roster.

Giants' Wade Meckler: Exits game with apparent injury
Meckler was removed in the bottom of the first inning of Sunday's Cactus League game against the Cubs due to an apparent injury, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Meckler grounded out in his lone at-bat during the top of the inning, then appeared to get hurt while unsuccessfully diving at an Ian Happ line drive that fell in the gap for a double in the bottom of the frame. Immediately after the play, the Giants subbed Hunter Bishop into the game in place of Meckler. The Giants will likely provide an update on Meckler's status following the game.

Giants' Wade Meckler: Activated, assigned to Double-A
Triple-A Sacramento reinstated Meckler (wrist) from its 7-day injured list Friday and assigned him to Double-A Richmond.
Meckler reached the big leagues for the first time last season and appeared in 20 games with the Giants, but he's played exclusively in the minors thus far in 2024 after being optioned to Sacramento in spring training. He's yet to see any action at the Triple-A level, however, as he was placed on Sacramento's IL before the start of the minor-league season due to a sprained wrist. Meckler began a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League in mid-May and eventually moved up to Single-A San Jose before being shut down in early June after experiencing a setback. He resumed his rehab assignment June 20 and is now deemed to be healthy after he appeared in 19 games with three of the Giants' lower-level affiliates. Once he gets in a handful of games with Richmond, Meckler will likely move back up to Sacramento.

Giants' Wade Meckler: Pulled off rehab assignment
Meckler (wrist) began a rehab assignment May 16, but he hasn't played in a game since Tuesday and remains on Triple-A Sacramento's 7-day injured list.
Between stops in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League and Single-A San Jose, Meckler had appeared in 14 games over a span of nearly three weeks, slashing .212/.281/.308 with one home run and three stolen bases. The Giants haven't indicated the next step for Meckler, but given that he hasn't played in nearly a week and hasn't been activated by Sacramento, he seemingly experienced a setback in his recovery from the sprained wrist that has prevented him from playing with the Triple-A club all season.

Giants' Wade Meckler: Out indefinitely with wrist sprain
Meckler has resided on Triple-A Sacramento's 7-day injured list all season with a sprained wrist and is likely weeks away from a return to game action, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.
Meckler sustained the injury at some point during the Cactus League before the Giants optioned him to minor-league camp March 13. He hasn't been able to swing the bat much since being shut down, and because his absence has now hit the two-month mark, Meckler will presumably need to go through his own version of spring training all over again before being ready to take on an everyday role in the Sacramento outfield.

Giants' Wade Meckler: Getting long look in spring
Meckler has gone 4-for-16 with a triple, one RBI, a stolen base, a walk and a run scored over his first nine Cactus League games.
The Giants' outfield is more or less set, but Meckler is at least getting a chance to play regularly in spring. He jumped from High-A to Triple-A last season thanks to impressive hitting skills, slashing .368/.453/.506 over 83 games across three levels of the minors. It was a contact-based approach -- he had six home runs and 17 doubles while adding 13 stolen bases. Meckler's good eye at the plate will work in his favor, but he'll likely need to spend most of this season at Triple-A Sacramento unless injuries create an opportunity for him to play in the majors.

Meckler began the campaign in High-A ball but was promoted to the majors Monday after mashing at three different minor-league levels. The outfielder demonstrated a good eye at the plate with a 39:43 BB:K over 69 minor-league contests, so it wasn't surprising that he took a walk in his big-league debut, though he also struck out twice. Meckler should get an opportunity to log consistent at-bats out the gate, but he may have a short leash since the Giants are in the midst of a tight battle for a wild-card spot in the National League.

Giants' Wade Meckler: Quick rise to majors
The Giants selected Meckler's contract from Triple-A Sacramento on Monday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
An eighth-round pick in the 2022 MLB Draft out of Oregon State University, Meckler has soared through the Giants' minor-league system this summer while delivering an overall .379/.463/.522 batting line with five homers and six steals in 69 games between High-A, Double-A and Triple-A. The 23-year-old doesn't offer a ton of immediate counting-stats upside, but he can cover all three outfield spots and should get a real opportunity down the stretch as San Francisco aims to claim a spot in the NL Wild Card mix. Giants outfielders have posted a combined .225/.307/.368 slash line so far this year.

Giants' Wade Meckler: Promoted to Triple-A
Meckler was promoted from Double-A Richmond to Triple-A Sacramento on Monday, Danny Emerman of KNBR 680 San Francisco reports.
Meckler, an eighth-round pick in 2022, has been a revelation this year. He dominated in the lower levels, which didn't mean much given that he was old for those levels and had a .531 BABIP at Single-A in 2022 and a .493 BABIP at High-A this season. However, his .336/.431/.450 slash line with a 14.4 percent walk rate and 16.7 percent strikeout rate in 39 games as a 23-year-old at Double-A suggests he could make it as a regular and perhaps even as a leadoff hitter someday at the highest level. Meckler doesn't have above-average power or speed, so it will have to be his hit tool that drives his fantasy and real-life value.
