Rockies' Anthony Molina: Optioned to Triple-A
The Rockies optioned Molina to Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday.
Molina appeared in two spring training games for the Rockies and allowed four earned runs on six hits and one walk while striking out three over three innings. He'll start the 2025 campaign in the minors, and he'll look to perform well enough to get a call-up to the majors should the Rockies need another arm out of the bullpen. Molina posted a 6.75 ERA and 1.58 WHIP across 59.2 innings for Colorado during the 2024 regular season.

Rockies' Anthony Molina: Records five outs in first start
Molina gave up three earned runs on two hits and three walks across 1.2 innings in Monday's 8-6 win over the Guardians.
Molina stepped in for his first MLB start on short notice after Austin Gomber (arm) was scratched ahead of the game, but the Rule 5 pick ended up serving as more of an opener than a traditional starting pitcher. He needed 45 pitches just to record five outs before being pulled in favor of Josh Rogers, who tossed five innings of two-run ball in bulk relief. If Gomber ends up landing on the injured list and isn't able to make his next turn this weekend in Los Angeles, Rogers would likely be the preferred choice over Molina to make a spot start or cover the bulk of the innings.

Rockies' Anthony Molina: Starting Monday against Guardians
Molina will start Monday's game against the Guardians, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
With Austin Gomber (arm) scratched, Molina will step in for his first career MLB start. A Rule 5 pick by the Rockies last winter, Molina has pitched to a 7.56 ERA and 1.80 WHIP in nine appearances so far this season. He's maxed out at 3.2 innings in an outing, so this will now be a bullpen day for Colorado.

Rockies' Anthony Molina: Picked by Colorado
The Rockies selected Molina during the 2023 Rule 5 Draft on Wednesday.
Molina split last season between the Double-A and Triple-A level with the Rays, and the organization opted not to add him to its 40-man roster. He posted a 4.50 ERA and 102:38 K:BB across 122 innings and will need to stay up with the Rockies for the entirety of 2024 in order to stick in the organization.

Rays' Anthony Molina: Reassigned to minor-league camp
Molina was reassigned to minor-league camp by the Rays on Thursday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.
Molina struggled this spring, which isn't a surprise considering he's 21 and hasn't pitched above A-ball. He did finish 2022 strong at High-A Bowling Green and figures to begin 2023 at Double-A Montgomery.
