  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Blanks Toronto in seven innings

Suarez (5-1) earned the win against the Blue Jays on Friday, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out six across seven scoreless innings. It was another strong outing for Suarez, who allowed one baserunner or less in six of seven innings while tossing 94 pitches (65 strikes) and inducing eight groundballs. The 29-year-old southpaw has logged seven straight quality starts, and over that span he has a 1.16 ERA and 0.96 WHIP across 46.2 innings. Suarez will look to stay hot in his next start, which is tentatively slated for next week on the road against the Marlins.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Takes loss despite quality start

Suarez (4-1) was tagged with the loss against the Pirates on Saturday, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out five across seven innings. After yielding an RBI single to Andrew McCutchen in the first, Suarez kept Pittsburgh off the board over the next five innings and faced the minimum number of batters in three of those frames. However, the veteran southpaw lost the lead for the Phillies in the seventh, when he gave up a solo home run to Henry Davis, and Suarez didn't get enough run support to avoid his first loss of the season. Still, Suarez has logged a quality start in each of his last six outings and sports a 2.70 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 38:11 K:BB across 43.1 innings this season. He is tentatively slated to pitch next weekend at home against the Blue Jays.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Delivers quality start

Suarez did not factor in the decision during Sunday's loss to Milwaukee. He allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits while striking out two over six-plus frames. Suarez gave up a run through six innings before he was charged with an unearned run in the seventh. He faced just one batter in the frame, yielding a double to Caleb Durbin before exiting the contest. Suarez's two punchouts and five swinging strikes were both the lowest he's produced this season. He was tagged with seven runs in his season debut but has since turned in five straight quality starts with a 1.10 ERA during that span. Suarez will carry a 2.72 ERA into his next start, which is projected to be in Pittsburgh.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Extends scoreless streak in win

Suarez (4-0) picked up the win in Tuesday's 2-0 victory over Atlanta, allowing four hits and three walks over six scoreless innings. He struck out eight. The eight Ks were a season high for the southpaw as he reeled off his fourth straight win and fourth straight quality start, while extending his scoreless streak to 13.2 innings. Suarez got a late start to the campaign due to back trouble and had a rough 2025 debut against Arizona on May 4, but since then he's been impressive, producing a 1.01 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 25:8 K:BB in 26.2 innings during his win streak. He'll look to keep rolling in his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home this weekend against the Brewers.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Blanks the Rockies

Suarez (3-0) earned the win Thursday over Colorado, allowing six hits and three walks over 6.2 scoreless innings. He struck out six. After allowing seven runs in just 3.2 innings during his first outing this year, Suarez has responded with three straight wins and quality starts, allowing just three runs over 20.2 frames in that span. Overall, the southpaw sports a 3.70 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP and 23:7 K:BB since returning from the back injury that delayed the start of his season. Suarez is currently lined up to face Atlanta at home in his next start.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Goes seven scoreless in win

Suarez (1-0) earned the win against the Guardians on Saturday, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out five over seven scoreless innings. Suarez was incredibly efficient, needing just 82 pitches to complete seven innings while generating 11 swinging strikes. It was an encouraging rebound after the southpaw yielded seven runs in his return from the injured list Sunday. He'll carry a 5.91 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 11:3 K:BB across 10.2 innings into a home matchup with the Pirates next weekend.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Shelled in return

Suarez took a no-decision in Sunday's 11-9 extra-inning loss against Arizona, allowing seven runs on seven hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out six. After a sharp four-outing rehab stint that saw the Philadelphia southpaw pitch to a 1.08 ERA and 24:5 K:BB across 16.2 innings, Suarez unraveled in this 82-pitch outing. After cruising through two scoreless innings with four Ks, Suarez allowed three runs on three hits in the third inning. The Diamondbacks dropped four more runs on four hits in the next frame, chasing Suarez with two outs in the inning. The 29-year-old will look to bounce back in his next start, currently slated to be at Cleveland next weekend.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Returns from IL

The Phillies reinstated Suarez (back) from the injured list Saturday. The 29-year-old isn't due to start for the Phillies until Sunday, but the team will bring him back a day in advance to replace Jose Ruiz (neck), who landed on the injured list Saturday. Suarez made four rehab starts in the minors, during which he turned in a minuscule 1.08 ERA and 0.98 WHIP while striking out 24 batters and walking five across 16.2 innings. He built up to 78 pitches during his final outing, so he shouldn't be working under significant restrictions during his season debut.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Could rejoin rotation this weekend

Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Tuesday that Suarez (back) could return from the 15-day injured list to make a start this weekend versus the Diamondbacks, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Suarez has looked sharp on his minor-league rehab assignment, yielding just two runs with a 24:5 K:BB over 16.2 innings covering four starts. He will throw a bullpen session Wednesday and could pitch for the Phillies as soon as Friday, but an exact date for his season debut is still undecided.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Tosses 78 pitches in rehab outing

Suarez (back) allowed one run on four hits and two walks while striking out eight in 4.2 innings during his rehab start Sunday with Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The left-hander threw 78 pitches in the rehab start, his fourth since beginning his minor-league assignment April 10. Suarez looks like he could be ready to return from the 15-day injured list to make his next start in the big leagues, but the uncertain status of Cristopher Sanchez (forearm) -- who is considered day-to-day -- creates some uncertainty about when Suarez might be called upon to pitch for the Phillies.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Sharp in second rehab start

Suarez (back) allowed one run on three hits and one walk while striking out seven in four innings during his second minor-league rehab start Wednesday for Single-A Clearwater, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Suarez was sharp, tossing 39 of his 54 pitches for strikes. It's unclear how many more rehab appearances the left-hander will need during his recovery from back stiffness, but the Phillies would figure to want him to be stretched out further than the 50-pitch range. Suarez will likely make at least one more start in the minors before Philadelphia considers activating him from the injured list, but he's still on track to rejoin the rotation before the end of April.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Excels in first rehab start

Suarez (back) struck out four while giving up one hit and no walks over three innings in his first rehab start Thursday with Single-A Clearwater. Suarez's first competitive appearance since his March 9 Grapefruit League start against the Orioles went about as well as the Phillies could have hoped; he fired 24 of his 33 pitches for strikes and faced the minimum over three innings while not allowing a ball to leave the infield. He's expected to stick around with Clearwater for his next rehab start Tuesday and will be targeting around four innings and 55 pitches, per Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer. Suarez will most likely need at least one more rehab appearance after Tuesday before being deemed ready to return from the 15-day injured list.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Targeting 55 pitches in rehab start

Suarez (back) is expected to throw around four innings or 55 pitches in his next minor-league rehab start Tuesday with Single-A Clearwater, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Tuesday will mark the second appearance in the minors for Suarez, who completed three scoreless innings in Thursday's rehab start with High-A Clearwater. It's unclear how much time Suarez will spend on his assignment, but fantasy managers can expect the left-hander to return from back stiffness sometime before the end of April at this point. In Suarez's stead, Taijuan Walker has thrown 10.2 scoreless innings over two starts so far this season.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Three innings in rehab start

Suarez (back) completed three scoreless innings while allowing one hit and no walks to go along with four strikeouts in his rehab start with High-A Clearwater on Thursday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. Suarez made his first appearance since hitting the injured list as he ramps up for a projected late-April return to the majors. He threw 33 pitches in the outing and averaged 92.2 mph with his fastball, in line with his velocity from last season.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Cleared to begin rehab assignment

Suarez (back) will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Clearwater on Thursday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Suarez is slated to throw three innings for Clearwater in what will be his first game appearance since he went down with lower-back stiffness in mid-March. The left-hander will likely require at least two additional rehab starts before rejoining the Phillies' rotation. Taijuan Walker will continue to hold down a rotation spot for Philadelphia until Suarez is ready to return.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: May face live hitters this weekend

Suarez (back) could face live hitters in his next scheduled throwing session before the end of the week, MLB.com reports. Suarez continues to progress in his recovery from lower-back stiffness, and he'll likely need to go on at least a brief minor-league rehab assignment before rejoining Philadelphia's roster. That could be the next step in his throwing progression, barring any setbacks in this weekend's slated session, and the left-hander remains on track to return to the major leagues before the end of April. Taijuan Walker is occupying a spot in the Phillies' rotation in Suarez's stead, and he threw six scoreless innings with four strikeouts while earning the win in Thursday's start against the Rockies.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Hopes to return sometime in April

Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said Monday that he is hopeful Suarez (back) "would pitch sometime in April," Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. Suarez is dealing with a back injury and will begin the season on the 15-day injured list. He is throwing on flat ground but will need time to get built back up, which Dombrowski believes will take "three weeks or something at least." Philadelphia will use Taijuan Walker as its fifth starter until Suarez is ready.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Needs IL stint

Manager Rob Thomson said Sunday that Suarez (back) will begin the season on the injured list, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. The left-hander suffered a back injury last week and will be unavailable for at least the first couple weeks of the regular season. Taijuan Walker will step into Philadelphia's rotation while Suarez is sidelined.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Sharp in first spring appearance

Suarez hurled two scoreless innings in Tuesday's Grapefruit League appearance against the Yankees, allowing one hit while striking out two. It was the first appearance of the spring for Suarez, who looked sharp in two frames of relief. The 29-year-old left-hander was a first-time All-Star in 2024 on the strength of a 1.83 ERA over his first 16 starts of the campaign, but he limped to the finish line with a 6.54 ERA across his last 11 regular-season starts. The poor second half has rendered Suarez more of a late-round draft selection in fantasy leagues, but he's in line to carry plenty of streaming appeal in 2025 as long as he remains a starter for a Phillies club that should offer plenty of run support.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Gets $8.8 million from Philadelphia

The Phillies and Suarez avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $8.8 million contract Thursday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. It was the third and final year of arbitration eligibility for Suarez. The veteran left-hander had a 2.76 ERA in the first half but just a 5.65 ERA in eight starts during due to a back injury. Suarez entered the offseason healthy and will be heading into his walk year in 2025.
