Tigers' Jace Jung: Sent back to minors
The Tigers optioned Jung to Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Jung went just 5-for-45 at the plate since being promoted in late April, and his playing time of late has been inconsistent. Zach McKinstry and Andy Ibanez should handle third base duties for the Tigers, at least until Matt Vierling (shoulder) is ready to return from the injured list.

Tigers' Jace Jung: Back in lineup Tuesday
Jung is starting at third base and batting eighth in Tuesday's game against the Red Sox.
After starting three straight games, Jung got Monday off, but he'll return to the lineup a day later. The 24-year-old is starting to emerge as Detroit's top option at the hot corner, at least against righties. The eventual return of Matt Vierling (shoulder) could squeeze Jung a bit, though he should maintain a regular role for now.

Tigers' Jace Jung: Out of Tigers lineup
Jung is not in the lineup for Monday's game versus the Red Sox.
Right-hander Tanner Houck is on the bump for the Red Sox, but the left-handed-hitting Jung will grab a seat after starting each of the last three games against righties. Zach McKinstry will pick up a start at third base and bat sixth for the Tigers in the series opener.

Tigers' Jace Jung: Sitting Wednesday
Jung isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game against Colorado.
Jung will get an opportunity to regroup Wednesday after going 1-for-16 with five strikeouts over his last seven games. Zach McKinstry will shift to the hot corner to fill in for Jung, who could be on his way back to Triple-A Toledo if he doesn't rediscover his swing soon.

Tigers' Jace Jung: On bench against RHP
Jung is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.
Since being promoted from Triple-A Toledo on April 21, the lefty-hitting Jung had started in each of the Tigers' last 10 matchups with right-handed pitchers, but he's slashed just .107/.286/.107 overall. He'll now head to the bench Sunday against right-hander Jack Kochanowicz, and a return to Toledo could soon be in the cards for Jung if sitting against righties starts to become a trend.

Tigers' Jace Jung: Taking seat against southpaw
Jung is not in the Tigers' lineup Thursday against the Angels.
The Angels are sending southpaw Yusei Kikuchi to the mound Thursday, so the left-handed bat of Jung will begin the game on the bench. In Jung's place, Andy Ibanez has the start at third base and is batting cleanup

Tigers' Jace Jung: Brought up from minors
The Tigers recalled Jung from Triple-A Toledo on Monday.
Jung has slashed .239/.409/.463 with three homers over his first 19 games at Toledo this season. He's starting at third base for the Tigers on Monday and could see regular reps there against right-handed pitching. Tigers' Jace Jung: Spotted at Comerica Park
Jung joined the Tigers at Comerica Park prior to Monday's game against the Padres, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
There's no word yet on if Jung will be recalled to the active roster or is just in Detroit as a precaution, but Kerry Carpenter (hamstring) did exit Sunday's game with a hamstring issue. Jung failed to make the Opening Day roster but has slashed .239/.409/.463 with three homers over his first 19 games at Triple-A Toledo.

Tigers' Jace Jung: Optioned to Triple-A
Jung was optioned to Triple-A Toledo on Monday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
It had seemed like Jung had a good chance of making the team after Matt Vierling (shoulder) was ruled out for Opening Day, but the Tigers will make do with the likes of Zach McKinstry and Andy Ibanez at third base while Vierling is sidelined. Jung hit .121 with one home run and a 10:4 K:BB in 37 plate appearances in Grapefruit League play.

Tigers' Jace Jung: Hits first spring home run
Jung went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against Atlanta.
Jung has been struggling this spring, as he entered Tuesday's contest just 3-for-22 with no home runs, but he showed a little spark in this one. Despite his slump, the 24-year-old is in a good position to serve as Detroit's Opening Day third baseman with Matt Vierling (shoulder) currently on the shelf. Jung batted .241 with a .666 OPS and no long balls across 34 games during his MLB debut in 2024, but he has the talent to improve on those numbers in his first full season in the majors.

Tigers' Jace Jung: Could benefit with Vierling out
With Matt Vierling (shoulder) set to begin the regular season on the injured list, Jung could have a clearer path to regular playing time at third base, per Joey Johnston of MLB.com.
Jung was already seemingly on top of the depth chart at the hot corner, though he was likely to work in a platoon with Vierling. However, Vierling is dealing with a strained right rotator cuff muscle and will not be ready for Opening Day, so Jung may see a larger share of the playing time in the early going. If the 24-year-old gets off to a hot start, he could lock up the role more firmly for the rest of the year.

Tigers' Jace Jung: Impresses in batting practice
Jung's wrist is fully recovered from December surgery, and he put on a show during batting practice Saturday by hitting homers out to all fields, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
With Alex Bregman choosing Boston over Detroit and a couple other teams, the third-base job is an open competition between Jung and Matt Vierling this spring. Jung has a chip on his shoulder and reported to camp early to show that he's regained the explosiveness in his swing that was more apparent in 2023. His exit velocities were below expectations last season, but Beck reports those metrics have been on the rise since minicamp in January. Jung mentioned that he did 100 push-ups a day to strengthen the wrist and also put in a lot of time with his brother, Rangers third baseman Josh Jung, working on his footwork at third base. Vierling will make the team regardless, but Jung will likely open the season at Triple-A if he can't win the third-base job in spring training.
