  • Athletics' Brent Rooker: Team trying to extend

Athletics manager Mark Kotsay indicated Friday that the club is looking to sign Rooker (forearm) to a contract extension, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Kotsay was talking to reporters about the recent signing of Luis Severino and noted of Rooker that the team is "hopeful to get something done" with the 30-year-old that would show the Athletics are moving in a new direction in regard to "making commitments to players." Rooker is projected to make around $5 million in his first year of arbitration eligibility this offseason and is under team control through 2027. Athletics general manager David Forst said in November that he did not expect to trade Rooker, and the news that the club is looking to extend him instead certainly backs up that line of thinking. Rooker underwent right forearm extensor surgery but is expected to be ready for the start of spring training.

  • Athletics' Brent Rooker: Undergoes forearm surgery

Athletics general manager David Forst revealed Friday that Rooker underwent right forearm extensor surgery Tuesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Rooker evidently dealt with discomfort in his elbow/forearm for the bulk of the season. It certainly didn't affect his performance at the plate, as he posted a .927 OPS with 39 home runs, but it could be at least part of the reason he didn't start a game in the outfield after May. Rooker is expected to be 100 percent healthy for the start of spring training.

The round tripper marked Rooker's first time leaving the yard since Sept. 16 and puts him just one shy of reaching the 40-homer mark heading into the final day of the regular season Sunday.

  • Athletics' Brent Rooker: Another productive offensive day

Rooker went 2-for-3 with an RBI infield single, a stolen base and a walk in a win over the Cubs on Wednesday. He was also caught stealing on another attempt.

Rooker continued his torrid September run Wednesday with his eighth multi-hit effort in 17 games. The slugger got it done with some small ball in the matinee victory after having belted his 36th and 37th home runs of the season on back-to-back days to begin the week. Rooker's on-base streak now sits at 28 games as well, a stretch that dates back to Aug. 20 and has seen him generate a .357/.421/.634 slash line with 13 extra-base hits and 27 RBI across 126 plate appearances.

The round tripper pushed Rooker's career-best season total to 37 and was his fourth in the last 10 games alone, while the two RBI the big swing generated were his 12th and 13th during that same span.

  • Athletics' Brent Rooker: Keeps rolling in Saturday's loss

Rooker went 3-for-5 with a two-run single and a run in a loss to the White Sox on Saturday.

Rooker got it done the small-ball way Saturday, extending his on-base streak to 24 games with his sixth multi-hit effort in 13 September contests. Rooker has just one extra-base hit in his last seven games, but he's been a true Renaissance man with the bat in a breakout 2024 by complementing his 63 XBHs with a career-high 10 steals and career-best 9.5 percent walk rate.
