  • Twins' Royce Lewis: Headed to injured list

The Twins will place Lewis on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Lewis sat out Saturday's contest while the Twins ran tests on the hamstring that he injured Friday. He'll now spend at least the next 10 days on the shelf, though the Twins may take extreme caution bringing the 26-year-old back from the injured list since this is already the second time this season he's strained his left hamstring. Brooks Lee will likely pick up most of the starts at third base until Lewis returns.

  • Twins' Royce Lewis: Out of lineup Saturday

Lewis (hamstring) isn't in the starting lineup for Saturday's matchup versus Houston. This was the expected outcome after Lewis left Friday's game in the ninth inning and was later diagnosed with a left hamstring strain. Manager Rocco Baldelli indicated after the contest that the team is going to run more tests on Lewis on Saturday, so a clearer picture of how much time the young slugger is slated to miss could emerge shortly. Brooks Lee is starting at third base for Minnesota on Saturday while Kody Clemens is back in the lineup at second base.

  • Twins' Royce Lewis: Battling hamstring strain

Lewis suffered a left hamstring strain during Friday's loss against the Astros, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Manager Rocco Baldelli said after the game that Lewis' hamstring "tested relatively well upon examination," but the team plans to run more tests on him Saturday. The oft-injured Lewis missed the first month-plus of the season due to a strain in the same hamstring, and it remains unclear if his latest flare-up will send him back to the injured list.

  • Twins' Royce Lewis: Out of lineup Wednesday

Lewis is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Rangers. Lewis has perked up offensively in June, going 8-for-22 with five RBI and a 4:5 K:BB. Despite that, he'll head to the bench for the fourth time this month. Brooks Lee will start at third base and bat eighth for the Twins on Wednesday.

  • Twins' Royce Lewis: Getting rest Sunday

Lewis is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays. Lewis has finally begun to round into form at the plate, but the Twins will still give him a chance to catch his breath in Sunday's series finale. Brooks Lee will step in at third base in place of Lewis, who has gone 5-for-14 with two doubles, four walks, four RBI and three runs in his last five contests.

  • Twins' Royce Lewis: Absent from Minnesota lineup

Lewis is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Athletics. Lewis has logged consecutive games with a hit for the first time since May 18 and 19, but he will get a breather in Thursday's series finale. Willi Castro will start at third base and bat fifth as the Twins try to complete a four-game sweep.

  • Twins' Royce Lewis: Ends 0-for-32 slump

Lewis went 1-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's win over the A's. Lewis ended an 0-for-32 slump with his double. Lewis is hitting just .133/.207/.420 in 22 games since returning from a hamstring injury. While Lewis has been a bit unlucky with a .148 BABIP, he also struggled at the end of last season, hitting .181 with a .500 OPS in September. The Twins will hope his performance Tuesday finally gets him going at the plate.

  • Twins' Royce Lewis: Mired in 0-for-30 slump

Lewis went 0-for-2 and was pulled for a pinch hitter in the eighth inning in Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Mariners. He's in an 0-for-30 slump at the plate. Lewis is hitting just .127/.195/.392 in 21 games since returning from a hamstring injury. While Lewis has been a bit unlucky with a .225 xBA and .140 BABIP, he also struggled at the end of last season, hitting .181 with a .500 OPS in September. It's not out of the question he could be sent to Triple-A to get back on track. Lewis being pulled for a pinch hitter late in a close game late could indicate the Twins may be ready to take action on his struggles.

  • Twins' Royce Lewis: Not starting Saturday

  • Twins' Royce Lewis: Sitting amid slump

Lewis is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Rays, Brian Murphy of MLB.com reports. The 25-year-old started the previous 10 games but will take a seat Tuesday while in the midst of an 0-for-18 slump. Jonah Bride will step in at the hot corner and bat seventh against Tampa Bay righty Taj Bradley while Lewis gets a day to reset.

  • Twins' Royce Lewis: On bench for second game of day

Lewis is out of the lineup for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Orioles. Lewis is just over a week removed from returning from a long stint on the injured list due to a hamstring strain, so the Twins are seemingly just giving him some rest in the second half of the twin bill. He started at third base in the Twins' 6-3 win in Game 1, going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.

  • Twins' Royce Lewis: Breaks out of slump

Lewis went 2-for-5 with an RBI in Sunday's 7-6 win over San Francisco. He ended an 0-for-13 slump to begin the season. Lewis slumped at the end of last season as well, so he was 0-for-36 since last September before Sunday. Lewis missed the team's first 35 games after suffering a strained hamstring late in spring training. He may finally be shaking off the rust with Sunday's performance.

  • Twins' Royce Lewis: Batting fifth in season debut

Lewis will start at designated hitter and bat fifth in Tuesday's game against the Orioles. It's the season debut for Lewis, who was shelved for nearly six weeks with a strained left hamstring. Jonah Bride is playing third base for the Twins in the series opener.

  • Twins' Royce Lewis: Expected to return Tuesday

Lewis (hamstring) is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Bobby Nightengale of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports. Lewis went 4-for-23 with no walks and six strikeouts in six rehab games with Triple-A St. Paul. He played the last three of those contests at third base and looks like he'll be ready to handle a full nine-inning game defensively, though the Twins could also occasionally use Lewis at designated hitter while easing him back into the mix after he suffered a moderate left hamstring strain late in spring training. Lewis is poised to make his season debut in Tuesday's series opener versus the Orioles.

  • Twins' Royce Lewis: Likely to return May 6

Lewis (hamstring) is likely to be activated from the 10-day injured list when the Twins begin a homestand May 6, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. Lewis will play 10 innings at designated hitter during Triple-A St. Paul's doubleheader Tuesday as he continues his rehab assignment. He'll then play a full game at third base Wednesday. While Lewis is "potentially an option" to be activated Friday in Boston, Hayes relays that it's "likelier" Lewis will remain on his rehab assignment through the weekend before making his season debut for the Twins on May 6. The infielder has been working his way back from a strained left hamstring.

  • Twins' Royce Lewis: Cleared to begin rehab assignment

Lewis (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A St. Paul on Friday, Phil Miller of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports. Lewis has been ramping up his running this week and didn't encounter any setbacks, so he's been cleared to test out his left hamstring in game action. It's not clear how many rehab contests Lewis will need before being activated from the IL, but he's missed over a month of action, so it will likely be more than a few games.

  • Twins' Royce Lewis: Ramping up rehab

Lewis (hamstring) did some sprints Monday and ran the bases again Tuesday, Bobby Nightengale of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports. Lewis is coming along well in his recovery from a left hamstring strain and would appear close to a rehab assignment, although the Twins haven't revealed a timetable for that yet. He's been sidelined since mid-March, so Lewis will likely require more than just a few rehab games.

  • Twins' Royce Lewis: Doing some light baserunning

Lewis (hamstring) will do some light baserunning Thursday, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports. While he won't be running full-bore, this appears to be the first time Lewis has run the bases since he suffered a strained left hamstring in mid-March. Lewis has also taken on-field batting practice and gone through defensive drills this week, so he is making clear progress. That said, it's uncertain when he will be ready for a rehab assignment, so a target for his return to the Twins' lineup remains up in the air.

Lewis (hamstring) has taken on-field batting practice since Thursday and fielded groundballs in defensive drills Monday, Bobby Nightengale of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports. Lewis is demonstrating some signs of progress since he suffered a left hamstring strain March 16. It's not clear when he may begin a rehab assignment, but he could be on track to return from the 10-day injured list in early May.
