Orioles' Colton Cowser: Gets breather Sunday
Cowser is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies.
Cowser had started every game dating back to the Orioles' penultimate contest before the All-Star break, so he was well overdue for a day off. Austin Slater will pick up a start in left field in place of Cowser, whose move to the bench comes while he's gone 4-for-23 (.174 average) with 12 strikeouts over his last six starts.

Orioles' Colton Cowser: Provides only offense with homer
Cowser went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer and two walks in Thursday's loss to the Dodgers.
Cowser jumped on a four-seamer from Bobby Miller with two outs in the top of the fifth inning and crushed it into the stands in center field for his 20th home run of the campaign and his fourth this month. The outfielder also drew two walks in the contest -- something he hadn't done since July 20 against Texas. Despite his recent success at the plate, Cowser is still batting just .243 in August with 13 RBI and 18 runs scored. He's also struck out multiple times in eight of his last 13 games.

Orioles' Colton Cowser: Smacks homer in win
Cowser went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Friday's 7-5 win over the Astros.
Cowser ended a 12-game homer drought with his third-inning blast. In that span, he hit just .224 (11-for-49). The outfielder is now slashing .249/.326/.454 with 19 homers, 57 RBI, 61 runs scored and eight stolen bases through 122 contests. He remains the preferred leadoff hitter versus right-handed pitchers, though any prolonged slump at the plate for Cowser could cause manager Brandon Hyde to try someone else atop the order.

Orioles' Colton Cowser: Three hits, two runs in win
Cowser went 3-for-6 with a double and two runs scored in Saturday's 7-5 win over the Rays.
Per Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com, Cowser was sporting a wrap on his left wrist, but he still had another productive game. The outfielder is batting .306 (11-for-36) over nine games in August, even though it appears he's not quite 100 percent. For the season, he's up to a .254/.332/.466 slash line with 18 homers, 17 doubles, seven stolen bases, 54 RBI and 54 runs scored over 110 contests.

Orioles' Colton Cowser: Homers in consecutive games
Cowser went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 4-1 win over the Rays.
The 24-year-old went deep on the fourth pitch of the game, and the Orioles led wire-to-wire against their divisional foes. Cowser's power has come back in a big way, and he's gone 28-for-81 (.346) with six homers and 20 RBI over 21 games since the All-Star break. The outfielder's seeing a full-time role between left field and center field, and he's up to 18 long balls, 54 RBI, 52 runs scored and seven stolen bases through 109 contests. The one flaw in his profile has been an elevated strikeout rate -- he's struck out 26 times since the break, including four times Friday.

He added a two-run single in the ninth to pull the Orioles within a run as part of a rally that fell just short. Cowser's four RBI tied a season-high mark, and he's now at 53 runs batted in along with 17 home runs, seven steals and a .250/.332/.458 slash line through 372 plate appearances on the campaign.
