  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Adds two pitches to repertoire

Jobe added a curveball and a two-seam fastball to his pitch mix during the offseason with the hope of improving his strikeout rate in 2025, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

The 22-year-old righty is hoping to make use of a six-pitch repertoire during the upcoming season, as he was already throwing a four-seam fastball, a cutter, a changeup and a sweeper. Though he reached the big leagues in September and earned a spot in the Tigers' postseason bullpen, Jobe saw his strikeout rate fall to 25.6 percent over 91.2 innings across three minor-league stops in 2024, down all the way from 32.6 percent during the 2023 season. Jobe noted he particularly struggled with missing bats on two-strike counts, and he's hoping that adding more diversity to his arsenal will aid him in putting more batters away. After making his MLB debut as a reliever, Jobe will get the chance to compete for a rotation spot with Detroit in spring training and is expecting to throw at least 130 innings in his rookie campaign.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Inside track on rotation spot?

Jobe seems likely to claim an Opening Day rotation spot if he has an effective spring, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

Jobe made his MLB debut last year and has a ton of upside, so the Tigers understandably want to see him claim a rotation spot right out of the gates. It's possible that the 22-year-old needs a little more seasoning in the minors, though it seems as if he's ready to make a big impact in 2025 either way. While there will likely be some growing pains, Jobe has overpowering stuff and could be a breakout fantasy performer once he gets comfortable against MLB hitters. He's already a top dynasty target and should pick up steam in redraft formats.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Makes case for playoff roster

Jobe walked one and struck out two in three scoreless innings of relief during Saturday's 4-0 loss to the White Sox.

After clinching a wild-card spot Friday and then sitting through a 140-minute rain delay before Saturday's first pitch, the Tigers were fairly listless in this one, but Jobe gave them some life with an impressive long-relief effort that saw him fire 24 of 39 pitches for strikes. The fact that the organization's top pitching prospect was deployed Saturday rather than held back for the regular-season finale Sunday could be a sign Detroit plans on including Jobe on its postseason roster, but what role he might fill in that case isn't clear. Over his last seven minor-league starts between Double-A and Triple-A prior to his late-September promotion to the majors, Jobe posted a 2.57 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 32:15 K:BB in 35 innings.
