Angels' Jack Kochanowicz: Relegated to Triple-A
The Angels optioned Kochanowicz to Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday.
Kochanowicz was lit up during his latest outing Thursday, surrendering eight runs to the Rangers in just 2.2 innings. He'll now look to get back on track in the minors, and the Angels will bring up Jake Eder to provide some additional bullpen depth heading into the All-Star break.

Angels' Jack Kochanowicz: Ugly outing Thursday
Kochanowicz (3-9) allowed eight runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out three over 2.2 innings to take the loss versus the Rangers on Tuesday.
Kochanowicz ran into a little trouble when he allowed two runs in the first inning, and the Rangers put together a more significant rally in the third to knock him from the game. It's a disappointing end to the first half for the right-hander, who had allowed a reasonable 13 runs over 24 innings across his previous five starts. He's at a 6.03 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 65:45 K:BB through 94 innings over 19 starts this season. The Angels have let Kochanowicz do some learning on the job, but after Carson Fulmer threw 5.1 innings on 88 pitches (50 strikes) out of the bullpen, it's fair to wonder who will hold the fifth spot in the rotation coming out of the All-Star break.

Angels' Jack Kochanowicz: Goes 5.1 frames in no-decision
Kochanowicz allowed three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out one batter over 5.1 innings in a no-decision against Toronto on Saturday.
Kochanowicz yielded three runs through three innings before settling down and holding Toronto hitless and scoreless for the rest of his outing. Despite the strong finish, the right-hander failed to complete six frames for the seventh straight start. Kochanowicz also registered his usual low strikeout total -- he's now punched out two or fewer batters in three straight starts and has just 62 Ks through 91.1 frames on the campaign. His profile isn't an appealing one in fantasy, but Kochanowicz has at least managed to hold down a rotation spot throughout the season. His final start before the All-Star break lines up to come at home against Texas.

Angels' Jack Kochanowicz: Quick exit in no-decision
Kochanowicz allowed two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two over four-plus innings in a no-decision versus the Nationals on Sunday.
Kochanowicz was pulled at 63 pitches (37 strikes) after running into trouble in the fourth and fifth innings. Interim manager Ray Montgomery has shown no hesitation to pull starters if they begin to fade in the middle innings -- since he took over managerial duties June 20 due to Ron Washington's health-related absence, only three of nine starting pitchers have exceeded 90 pitches. That shortens an already limited runway for Kochanowicz, who pitched into the sixth inning just once in six June starts. He allowed 18 runs over 25.2 innings while adding a 21:11 K:BB this month, so his outings are likely to continue being short unless he turns a corner with his performance. Overall, he has a 5.44 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 61:40 K:BB through 86 innings over 17 starts this season. Kochanowicz's next start is expected to be in Toronto.

Kochanowicz allowed four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out one batter over five innings in a no-decision against Boston on Monday.
Though Kochanowicz issued only two free passes, he threw just 49 of 84 pitches for strikes. The right-hander also tied a season low with one punchout, though he notched a solid 13 whiffs. This was far from Kochanowicz's best outing, but on the plus side he avoided giving up a homer for the first time in his past five starts. Kochanowicz has managed to hold onto a role at the back of the Angels' rotation despite posting a mediocre 5.49 ERA through 16 starts, and he's tentatively slated to face the Nationals the next time he takes the mound.

Kochanowicz did not factor into the decision Wednesday against the Yankees, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out eight.
Kochanowicz was impressive, striking out a season-high eight Yankees. He allowed just two hits, though both were solo home runs -- the first off the bat of Jazz Chisholm in the second inning before Cody Bellinger went deep in the fourth. The 24-year-old Kochanowicz struggled to a 7.36 ERA in his previous five starts (22 innings) coming into Wednesday. He lowered his ERA to 5.38 on the season with a 1.55 WHIP and 58:36 K:BB across 77 innings. Kochanowicz is currently lined up to face the Red Sox at home in his next outing.

Kochanowicz was tagged for two solo home runs and couldn't complete the fifth inning due to a rain delay. Though his outing was cut short at just 53 pitches, the 24-year-old snapped a streak of four straight starts allowing exactly four earned runs. He'll carry a 5.53 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 50:33 K:BB across 71.2 innings into a tough matchup with the Yankees next week.

Kochanowicz delivered two scoreless frames to open the game before coughing up a run in the third inning. The Guardians then scored three in the fourth inning, including one on a solo shot by Jose Ramirez. Kochanowicz has given up four runs in three straight outings, raising his ERA from 4.71 to 5.34 in the process. He threw just 48 of 84 pitches for strikes Sunday in his shortest outing of the year. Kochanowicz was perfect the first time through the order, but the Yankees sent everyone to the plate in a four-run fourth inning that gave them all the offense they needed. The 24-year-old right-hander has had mixed results in May -- he's had two starts allowing just one run, but he's given up four or more in his other three outings this month. For the season, he's at a 5.07 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 40:29 K:BB across 60.1 innings over 11 starts. His next start is projected to be on the road in Cleveland.
