Carreras was outrighted to Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.
Carreras will remain in the organization after going unclaimed off waivers when the Rockies designated him for assignment Sunday. The 24-year-old has struggled all season at Albuquerque, batting .181 with a .515 OPS across 38 games.

Rockies' Julio Carreras: DFA'd by Colorado
Carreras was designated for assignment by the Rockies on Sunday, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports.
The 24-year-old was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque in mid-March and has now lost his place on the 40-man roster. Carreras has struggled to a .515 OPS and 32.9 percent strikeout rate through 38 games with the Isotopes this season.

Carreras reached Albuquerque last season but had a down year overall in posting a .664 OPS, so he'll receive more development time. The 24-year-old should be Albuquerque's regular shortstop.

Carreras (undisclosed) has gone 5-for-20 with three runs and three RBI in five games since being reinstated from Double-A Hartford's 7-day injured list May 17.
Carreras missed just under a month due to the unspecified injury. Through 76 plate appearances in the Eastern League this season, the 23-year-old shortstop is slashing .265/.333/.397 with five extra-base hits, three stolen bases and a 28.9 percent strikeout rate.

Rockies' Julio Carreras: On injured list at Double-A
Double-A Hartford placed Carreras on the 7-day injured list April 25 with an unspecified injury.
He hadn't played since April 22 before landing on the IL. Carreras hit .271 with a .364 on-base percentage, two home runs and three steals in 56 plate appearances prior to suffering the injury. The Rockies added the 23-year-old shortstop to the 40-man roster back in November to protect him from being selected during the Rule 5 draft.

Carreras was added to the Rockies' 40-man roster Tuesday.
Carreras, who turns 23 in January, has impressive physical tools on both sides of the ball, but he struggled in a small sample at Double-A last season (80 wRC+, 30.9 percent strikeout rate in 19 games). He hit .289/.352/.473 with 11 home runs and 17 steals in 110 games at High-A.
