Reds' Austin Hays: Could return Friday
Hays (foot) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Chattanooga on Tuesday, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Hays will serve as Chattanooga's designated hitter Tuesday before picking up a start in the outfield Wednesday. He will be re-evaluated after that, potentially setting Hays up to be activated from the 10-day injured list Friday if all goes well. The veteran outfielder has been sidelined for the entirety of June with a bone bruise in his left foot.

Hays' recovery from a deep bone bruise in his left foot has slowed recently, and lingering pain will prevent him from running for a few days. Encouragingly, Hays' MRI on Wednesday came back negative, but he hasn't made any progress since the tests. He has been on the shelf since May 30.

Reds' Austin Hays: Recovery stalled
Hays underwent another MRI on his injured left foot Wednesday that came back negative, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
While he doesn't have any fractures, Hays is dealing with persistent discomfort due to a deep bone bruise. The initial hope was that Hays could return before the end of this week's series in Cleveland, but now his status is up in the air. He will be re-evaluated Friday.

Reds' Austin Hays: Could resume running late this week
Hays (foot) could be cleared to resume running later this week, Charlie Goldsmith of the Dayton Daily News reports.
Hays just recently shed his walking foot and began baseball activities as he recovers from a left foot contusion, and he could take another step in his rehab in a few days.
