Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Heads to paternity list
The Pirates placed Reynolds (personal) on the paternity list Wednesday.
Reynolds left the team to observe the birth of his child and must miss at least one game and no more than three while he's on the paternity list. The Pirates recalled Billy Cook from Triple-A Indianapolis to serve as a short-term replacement for Reynolds on the 26-man active roster.

It was the second triple of the year from Reynolds, who's beginning to find a groove at the plate after struggling at the plate most of the season. Reynolds saved the Pirates from a shutout with a two-run blast off Tanner Banks in the ninth inning. The 30-year-old outfielder had gone hitless over his prior three games, and he continues to have trouble making consistent contact -- his other two at-bats Friday resulted in strikeouts, and his 34.1 percent K rate through 20 contests is by far a career worst -- but Reynolds is still providing a steady fantasy floor, batting .270 (10-for-37) over his last 10 games with two homers, five RBI and five runs.

Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Returning to outfield Thursday
Reynolds (triceps) will start in right field and bat second in Thursday's game against the Nationals.
Reynolds will be making his first start in the outfield since March 30, as he had been limited exclusively to designated-hitter duties over the past two and a half weeks while managing right triceps soreness. The 30-year-old was apparently able to resume a throwing program without issue in recent days, and the Pirates are now comfortable enough with his health to have him play defense again. Pittsburgh had been getting by with a committee of Andrew McCutchen, Jack Suwinski and Alexander Canario in right field, but assuming Reynolds is ready to play in the outfield on a regular basis moving forward, McCutchen will likely end up seeing the bulk of the starts at DH.

Pirates general manager Ben Cherington said prior to Sunday's 5-4 11-inning win over the Yankees that Reynolds isn't expected to begin a throwing program until later this week while he manages right triceps soreness and will remain limited to serving as a designated hitter for the time being, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Reynolds, who went 1-for-5 with two RBI on Sunday, has served as the Pirates' DH for six straight games. The Pirates aren't concerned that the injury will be a long-term concern for Reynolds, and his fantasy outlook shouldn't change dramatically in the short term while he's available to fill the DH spot. Rather than Reynolds himself, his injury has had a more negative effect on the fantasy value of Andrew McCutchen, who has made just a pair of starts in right field in the Pirates' last six games. The Pirates likely aren't eager to give McCutchen regular playing time in the outfield, so he's expected to continue sharing right field with Jack Suwinski until Reynolds completes his throwing program.
