  • Diamondbacks' Seth Brown: Inks minor-league deal with Arizona

The Diamondbacks signed Brown (elbow) to a minor-league contract Friday.

Brown was released by the Athletics on June 26, but after weighing his options on the open market, he's settled on a new landing spot. The veteran outfielder posted a woeful .565 OPS with only one home run and three RBI over 38 big-league games before being let go, though he batted .500 (21-for-42) with seven home runs in just nine contests in the minors following a late-May demotion to Triple-A. Brown had been on the major-league 10-day injured list due to a left elbow injury at the time of his release, but his decision to sign with Arizona suggests that he's healthy again.

  • Seth Brown: Becomes free agent

Brown (elbow) was waived by the Athletics on Wednesday and elected free agency Thursday, Anthony Franco of MLB Trade Rumors reports.

Brown is dealing with a left elbow injury and hasn't played since June 11. The veteran outfielder has struggled mightily in the majors this season, slashing .185/.303/.262 with one homer, three RBI and one stolen base over 76 plate appearances, though he's crushed Triple-A pitching to the tune of a 1.583 OPS with seven home runs across nine contests. The Athletics elected to waive Brown on Wednesday, and he has enough MLB service time to have the right to choose to become a free agent. The next team Brown plays for will be new to him, as he was drafted by the Athletics in 2015 and spent his entire MLB career in the organization.

  • Athletics' Seth Brown: Placed on injured list

The Athletics placed Brown on the 10-day injured list Tuesday due to left elbow lateral epicondylitis.

More commonly known as "tennis elbow," Brown's injury has kept him sidelined for the Athletics' past four games and will officially cost him at least another week. He'll be replaced on the active roster by Gio Urshela (hamstring), who was activated off the injured list Tuesday.

  • Athletics' Seth Brown: Rejoining big club

The Athletics are expected to add Brown to the major-league roster Friday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

The veteran outfielder was designated for assignment by the A's last week but remained in the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. Brown played 33 big-league games before losing his roster spot and had a .212/.328/.308 slash line in 61 plate appearances.

  • Athletics' Seth Brown: Officially promoted

The Athletics selected Brown's contract from Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday.

Since being pushed off the Athletics' 40-man roster two weeks ago, Brown has slashed an incredible .500/.512/1.071 with seven homers, 13 RBI and 10 runs scored across 43 plate appearances at Las Vegas. Eager to capitalize on his hot bat, the Athletics will bring him back onto their big-league roster to replace Drew Avans, who was DFA'd in a corresponding move.

  • Athletics' Seth Brown: Remains in organization

Brown cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday.

Brown was designated for assignment by the A's on Friday but will stick in the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. The 32-year-old had a .212/.328/.308 slash line and 27.9 percent strikeout rate in 61 plate appearances before being removed from the 40-man roster.

  • Athletics' Seth Brown: DFA'd by Athletics

Brown was designated for assignment by the Athletics on Friday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

The Athletics are shaking up their outfield mix Friday. In addition to DFA'ing Brown, the Athletics optioned JJ Bleday to Triple-A Las Vegas and recalled Denzel Clarke. Across 61 plate appearances this season, Brown slashed .192/.311/.288 with one home run, three RBI, six runs scored, one stolen base and a 7:17 BB:K.

  • Athletics' Seth Brown: First multi-hit game this season

Brown went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base in Friday's 6-1 win over Miami.

The double was Brown's first extra-base hit since April 24, when he also doubled, and he submitted his first multi-hit game of the campaign. The outfielder's playing time has been sporadic -- Friday marked his first start in his last six appearances -- but he's been effective at the plate when given the opportunity. Over his last 10 outings, Brown is batting .333 (4-for-12) with one home run, two doubles, two RBI and four runs scored.

  • Athletics' Seth Brown: Launches first homer of 2025

Brown went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a strikeout in Sunday's 14-1 loss to the Brewers.

Brown provided the only tally on the scoreboard for the A's, launching a solo home run off Logan Henderson in the top of the fifth inning. The long ball was his first of the year, and the 32-year-old is now batting .167 with a home run and four walks while striking out eight times over 24 at-bats in 13 games this season.

  • Athletics' Seth Brown: Starting in left field Friday

Brown is starting in left field and batting sixth in Friday's contest versus the Mariners.

After Miguel Andujar drew the start in left field for Thursday's opener, the Athletics are turning to Brown for the second game of the series. Brown is expected to operate predominately in a reserve role this season.

  • Athletics' Seth Brown: Looks set for reserve role

Brown looks set to get playing time in both the outfield and first base in a backup role, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Brown is hitting just .200 (5-for-25) this spring, but looks set to make the roster as the fourth outfielder. Brown struggled to start last season, but hit .271/.312/.448 with nine home runs in 61 games after a stint in the minors. He should work his way into the lineup sporadically against right-handed pitching if he can build on last season's second half.

  • Athletics' Seth Brown: Avoids arbitration

The Athletics and Brown avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract Wednesday.

There's no word on the financial terms of the deal, but Brown was due a modest raise after earning a $2.6 million salary in 2024. The 32-year-old slashed .231/.283/.379 with 14 home runs in 124 games this past season. Brown is likely to play a good amount versus righties again for the Athletics in 2025.

  • Athletics' Seth Brown: Productive showing in finale

Brown went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs in a loss to the Mariners on Sunday.

Brown posted the only multi-hit effort of the afternoon for the Athletics in the season finale, his first performance with a pair of knocks since Sept. 6. The productive afternoon prevented him from heading into the offseason mired in a slump, as he'd gone just 2-for-24 over the prior seven games. The 2024 campaign was essentially a tale of two seasons for Brown -- he earned himself a mid-June outright assignment to Triple-A Las Vegas by posting a .189 average, .557 OPS and 33.8 percent strikeout rate over his first 63 games, but he generated a .271 average and .760 OPS across 61 games upon returning shortly before the All-Star break, striking out at a more modest 22.4 percent clip in the process.

Brown isn't in the Athletics' lineup for Saturday's game against New York.

Brown will take a seat Saturday as the Yankees send fellow left-hander Carlos Rodon to the mound. The former's absence will allow Daz Cameron to pick up a start in left field while batting sixth.

  • Athletics' Seth Brown: Out again versus lefty

Brown is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

The Cubs are starting a third straight lefty in the series in Justin Steele, and the left-handed-hitting Brown has been out of the lineup for all three contests, although he did receive a couple plate appearances off the bench Tuesday. Brown is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game in Houston.

  • Athletics' Seth Brown: Comes up clutch twice in win

Brown went 2-for-2 with a two-run home run and an additional RBI in Friday's 7-6 extra-innings win over the Tigers.

Brown didn't start Friday, but he was one of four Athletics with multiple hits in the marathon game. The 32-year-old saved the day in the 11th inning with a game-tying homer, then came up big again with the walk-off hit, a single, to plate JJ Bleday in the 13th. Brown has seven multi-hit efforts over his last 10 games, going 16-for-35 (.457) with four homers and 14 RBI in that span. The surge has him up to a .251/.310/.421 slash line with 14 homers, 44 RBI, 29 runs scored and four stolen bases through 106 contests overall.

  • Athletics' Seth Brown: Out of lineup Friday

Brown is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Tigers.

He's been swinging a hot bat over the past couple weeks, slashing .391/.442/.630 with three homers and 12 RBI in his last 13 games, but Brown remains a strict platoon player for manager Mark Kotsay. In fact, Brown has made just a single start against a lefty this season. Tarik Skubal starts for Detroit in the series opener.
