Rockies' German Marquez: Clean bill of health for camp
Rockies manager Bud Black said Thursday that Marquez (elbow) is back to full health for spring training, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.
After completing his recovery from his May 2023 Tommy John surgery, Marquez was cleared to make his 2024 debut for the Rockies on July 14, but he made just one start before going back on the shelf after developing a stress reaction in his surgically repaired elbow. Fortunately for Marquez, he didn't require another procedure and was able to move past the elbow issue through extended rest and rehab. The 29-year-old should be in the mix for the Rockies' Opening Day start, though that will hinge on him remaining healthy throughout the spring.

Rockies' German Marquez: Pushed to 60-day IL
Marquez (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Friday.
Marquez has already been ruled out for the rest of the 2024 season, but Friday's transaction will open up a spot on the 40-man roster for Luis Peralta. Marquez suffered a stress reaction in his right elbow just one start after returning from Tommy John surgery in July.

Rockies' German Marquez: Shut down for season
Rockies manager Bud Black said Thursday that Marquez will not return from the 15-day injured list this season after being diagnosed with a stress reaction in his right elbow, Manny Randhawa of MLB.com reports.
Marquez made his way back from the IL shortly before the All-Star break after completing his recovery from May 2023 Tommy John surgery but lasted just one start before experiencing a setback with his surgically repaired elbow. The good news is that Marquez isn't dealing with any UCL damage, and the expectation is that he'll be ready to resume throwing in 6-to-8 weeks and have a normal offseason. Marquez is set to earn $10 million in 2025 in his final year under contract.

Rockies' German Marquez: Continuing to ramp up
Marquez (elbow) will throw a bullpen session this weekend and will then be either activated or sent on a rehab assignment, MLB.com reports.
Marquez threw a 34-pitch bullpen session Thursday and mixed in his entire repertoire. He'll likely engage in a similar workout over the weekend and looks to be on track to be back at some point in early-to-mid August.

The Rockies placed Marquez on the 15-day injured list Monday with right elbow inflammation.
After completing his recovery from Tommy John surgery, Marquez was cleared to return from the 60-day injured list July 14, but he made just one start before going back on the shelf with another elbow-related issue. The fact that the Rockies are classifying Marquez's injury as inflammation rather than a strain is encouraging, but he could still need more than the minimum 15 days to move past the issue. Noah Davis was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque to replace Marquez on the active roster, and he could also be a candidate to slide into Marquez's spot in the rotation Tuesday against the Red Sox.

Rockies' German Marquez: Rusty in season debut
Marquez didn't factor into the decision Sunday against the Mets, allowing three runs on five hits and four walks across four innings. He struck out three.
Marquez made his first MLB start since April 26, 2023, after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He threw 70 pitches before being pulled. The 28-year-old managed to keep the Mets off the scoreboard until the fourth frame but was hit hard in the fourth. He allowed five of the first six batters he faced in the inning to reach safely, including a two-run home run to Pete Alonso. Marquez walked Francisco Lindor with the bases loaded for the Mets' third run but was able to avoid further damage by getting Brandon Nimmo to ground out with the bases loaded and end the inning. Marquez has previously been a reliable fantasy option, but fantasy managers should proceed with caution considering the right-hander's lengthy absence. The Rockies will play six consecutive games at Coors Field coming out of the All-Star break, though it's unclear when exactly Marquez will pitch.

Rockies' German Marquez: Activated for first 2024 start
The Rockies reinstated Marquez (elbow) from the 60-day injured list ahead of Sunday's game against the Mets.
He'll pick up his first start of the season and his first in the big leagues since April 26, 2023, now that he's completed his recovery from Tommy John surgery. Marquez wrapped up his seven-start minor-league rehab assignment on a high note Tuesday, when he struck out eight and allowed three runs on four hits and no walks over five innings for Double-A Hartford. Marquez will likely be capped at around 75 to 90 pitches in his 2024 Rockies debut, but he shouldn't face any major workload restrictions in his subsequent outings. During his last full season in the big leagues in 2022, Marquez turned in a 4.95 ERA and 1.37 WHIP while striking out 150 batters in 181.2 innings, so fantasy managers outside of deep leagues are probably best off taking a wait-and-see approach with the right-hander rather than immediately scooping him up off the waiver wire.

Sunday will mark Marquez's first time pitching in the majors since undergoing Tommy John surgery in May 2023. The 29-year-old made six rehab starts, posting a 6.23 ERA and 1.50 WHIP alongside a 23:4 K:BB across 17.1 innings between Colorado's minor-league affiliates. Rockies' German Marquez: Completes sixth rehab start
Marquez (elbow) made the sixth start of his rehab assignment Thursday with Double-A Hartford, covering 3.2 innings and giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk while striking out two.
According to MLB.com, Rockies manager Bud Black said Marquez's surgically repaired elbow came out fine following his latest rehab start, during which he built up to 69 pitches and hit 99 miles per hour with his fastball. Black suggested that Marquez will make one more rehab start with Hartford on Tuesday, and if all goes well, the right-hander's next outing will likely come with the big club. Marquez would line up for a start during the Rockies' final game before the All-Star break Sunday versus the Mets, but the organization may be more inclined to give him some extra time to recover from Tuesday's outing and wait until after the break before activating him from the 60-day injured list.
