Miller (illness) worked around a hit batter and a base hit while recording three strikeouts over a scoreless inning in Saturday's 7-3 win over the Royals in Cactus League play.
The lefty reliever made his spring debut Saturday, after he had previously been delayed due to finger numbness and then an illness. With Miller returning to action Saturday with an impressive appearance, the missed time shouldn't affect his chances of securing a spot in San Francisco's Opening Day bullpen. Over his 73 appearances with San Francisco in 2024, Miller covered 67.1 innings and registered a 3.88 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 87:38 K:BB while collecting four wins and 14 holds.

Giants' Erik Miller: Will return to mound Friday
Miller (illness) will return to Cactus League action Friday against the Reds, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Miller missed time earlier in camp after experiencing numbness in his throwing hand, but he overcame that issue before falling ill last week due to an elevated fever. He seems to be feeling healthy again, however, and is closing in on making his Cactus League debut. The left-handed reliever collected a 3.88 ERA and 87:38 K:BB across 67.1 innings for the Giants in 2024.

Miller has been battling numbness in a finger on his left (throwing) hand recently, though that isn't what held him back Saturday. The 27-year-old southpaw will take a day or two to recover before continuing to work toward making his spring debut.

Manager Bob Melvin said Sunday that Miller is dealing with some finger numbness, but the issue isn't significant enough to require any medical testing, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Giants' Erik Miller: Grabs fourth win
Miller (4-5) allowed a hit and a walk while failing to record a strikeout over 1.2 scoreless innings, earning the win Sunday over the Padres.
Spencer Bivens got the start but couldn't get through five innings. The Giants led 6-1 when Bivens was relieved by Miller, and they were able to hold the lead the rest of the way to give the southpaw reliever his first win since July 9. Since the start of August, Miller has a 4.50 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 21:11 K:BB over 14 innings. He's at a 3.65 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 78:34 K:BB with 12 holds over 61.2 innings this season.

Giants' Erik Miller: Handed another loss
Miller (3-5) allowed an unearned run on one hit and struck out one over one-third of an inning Friday, taking the extra-inning loss versus the Mariners.
Miller has been on the hook for the loss in each of his last two outings, though this was less his fault than his meltdown versus the White Sox on Wednesday. He's still allowed seven runs (six earned) over his last seven innings, and a 9:8 K:BB in that span isn't helping his cause. Miller is now at a 3.90 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 67:32 K:BB through 55.1 innings on the year. He's added 12 holds, but a BB/9 of 5.2 is far too high for him to be effective in any sort of high-leverage role.

Giants' Erik Miller: Takes fourth loss
Miller (3-4) allowed three runs on a hit and two walks while striking out one over two-thirds of an inning to take the loss Wednesday versus the White Sox.
Miller loaded the bases in the top of the ninth inning, and Spencer Bivens allowed all three of those runners to score. That left Miller with his first loss since July 22. The southpaw has allowed eight runs over 12 innings since the All-Star break, adding an 18:10 K:BB in that span. He's now at a 3.93 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 66:32 K:BB with 12 holds and three blown saves over 55 innings this season. He's earned just one hold since the start of July, so he's not currently in the mix for steady high-leverage chances.

Miller (3-3) allowed a run on a hit and a walk while striking out one over two-thirds of an inning Monday, taking the loss versus the Dodgers.
Miller left runners on the corners in the eighth inning before getting the hook and Randy Rodriguez then gave up an RBI single to Teoscar Hernandez to put the decisive run on Miller's line. That ended the 26-year-old southpaw's scoreless streak at 10 innings. For the year, Miller has a 3.43 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 51:23 K:BB while adding 11 holds and three blown saves through 44.2 innings. With the Giants' rotation getting close to full health, it's likely Miller spends most of his time in a setup role after serving as an opener nine times earlier in the campaign.

Miller worked the ninth inning with the Giants down by a run, and they were able to score twice in their half of the frame for the walk-off win. The southpaw's ability to pick up wins has been limited lately, as he saw steady usage as an opening pitcher when San Francisco's rotation was hammered by injuries in June. To his credit, he hasn't taken a loss since May 21, and he's yet to be on the hook for a loss in any of his nine starting assignments. Miller is on an eight-inning scoreless streak that has trimmed his ERA to 3.43 with a 1.19 WHIP and 46:22 K:BB through 42 innings this season. He's added 11 holds and three blown saves.
