Blue Jackets' Elvis Merzlikins: Struggles in loss to Sweden
Merzlikins stopped 23 of 28 shots in Latvia's 5-1 loss to Sweden in the 2026 Winter Olympics on Tuesday.
Latvia's Olympic campaign came to an end Tuesday in a loss to Sweden, though that outcome was totally expected given the difference in quality between the two teams. Merzlikins allowed 10 goals on 66 shots faced in two starts in the Olympics. He'll report back to the Blue Jackets, as Columbus will resume its regular-season campaign on the road against the Bruins on Feb. 26.

Jacob Markstrom G | NJ
Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Cruises to win Tuesday
Markstrom stopped 20 of 21 shots in Sweden's 5-1 win over Latvia in the 2026 Winter Olympics on Tuesday.
Markstrom was beaten midway through the second period, but other than that, he was excellent in a game where the offense provided enough support to claim an easy win. However, the Devils' netminder will have a tougher challenge against Team USA on Wednesday in the quarterfinals. Markstrom has stopped 49 of 53 shots in his two starts in the current Olympic campaign.

Frederik Andersen G | CAR
Hurricanes' Frederik Andersen: Falls short in qualifier
Andersen stopped 28 of 31 shots on net in Denmark's 3-2 loss to Czechia in Olympic qualification round play Tuesday.
Despite keeping Denmark's net tidy in the first and third periods, Andersen allowed three goals in the second period, which would ultimately be enough for Czechia to advance to the quarterfinals. The 36-year-old netminer finished the Olympics with a 1-2-0 record, a .913 save percentage and a 2.75 GAA across three appearances. The numbers he posted were a step up from his current stats with the Carolina Hurricanes, which could give the veteran netminder a morale boost headed into the last stretch of the NHL regular season.

Lukas Dostal G | ANA
Ducks' Lukas Dostal: Redeems struggles with win
Dostal turned aside 22 of 24 shots on net in Czechia's 3-2 win over Denmark in Olympic qualification round play Tuesday.
After a tough pair of outings to begin his time at the Olympics, Dostal bounced back in a big way to help push Czechia through to the Olympic quarterfinals. The 25-year-old netminder is up to a 1-1-1 record, an .879 save percentage and a 3.65 GAA across three appearances at the Olympics. Czechia has favored the young netminder over Dan Vladar and Karel Vejmelka for the majority of the tournament, giving Dostal a solid chance to grab the start in the team's quarterfinals matchup against Canada on Wednesday.

Charlie Lindgren G | WAS
Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Practices, feels good to go
Lindgren (lower body) was a full participant in Tuesday's practice and feels ready to return to the lineup, Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reports.
Lindgren sat out four straight games before the Olympic break. However, he is trending toward being available to suit up in Washington's home matchup against Philadelphia on Feb. 25. Assuming he is good to go, Lindgren will come off the injured reserve list, and the Capitals will probably return Garin Bjorklund to AHL Hershey.

Philipp Grubauer G | SEA
Kraken's Philipp Grubauer: Cruises into quarterfinals
Grubauer stopped 30 shots in Germany's 5-1 win over France in Olympic qualification round action Tuesday.
Pierre-Edouard Bellemare spoiled his shutout bid early in the second period, but otherwise Grubauer had little trouble stifling the French attack in a big win for Germany. The Kraken netminder is 2-1 in three starts during the tournament, having allowed six goals on 91 shots (.934 save percentage), and Grubauer will need to be at his best Wednesday in the quarterfinals against Slovakia.

Matt Villalta G | UTA
Mammoth's Matt Villalta: Summoned from AHL
Villalta was recalled from AHL Tucson on Tuesday.
Villalta has posted a 14-7-3 record with a 3.03 GAA and an .897 save percentage across 24 AHL appearances this season. Once Karel Vejmelka returns from the 2026 Winter Olympics, Villalta will probably head back to the minor-league level.

Jacob Markstrom G | NJ
Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Expected starter Tuesday
Markstrom was the first netminder off the ice at Tuesday's morning skate, according to Dan Rosen of NHL.com, which indicates he'll tend the twine for Sweden against Latvia during Tuesday's qualification matchup at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Markstrom is set to make his second straight start for the Swedes after Filip Gustavsson played in the team's first two games of the tournament. The 36-year-old Markstrom turned aside 29 of 32 shots in a 5-3 win over Slovakia on Saturday. The Latvians finished last in Group C during round-robin play, going 1-0-0-2. The winner of Tuesday's game will face the United States on Wednesday in the quarterfinals.

Domenic Divincentiis G | WPG
Jets' Domenic DiVincentiis: Brought up from minors
DiVincentiis was recalled from AHL Manitoba on Tuesday.
DiVincentiis has registered a 10-11-2 record, .908 save percentage and 2.68 GAA across 24 appearances with the Moose this season. His promotion may just be a result of the Jets getting back on the ice Tuesday, as Connor Hellebuyck is in Italy with Team USA at the 2026 Winter Olympics. If that's the case, DiVincentiis will likely be sent back to the minors when the NHL resumes play next week.

Elvis Merzlikins G | CLB
Blue Jackets' Elvis Merzlikins: Set to face Sweden
Merzlikins will be in goal for Latvia against Sweden on Tuesday in the qualifying round of the 2026 Winter Olympics, Brian Hedger of The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Merzlikins is set to get his first start since the opening game of the tournament, as Arturs Silovs was between the pipes for the Latvians' last two games of the preliminary round. Merzlikins allowed five goals on 38 shots against the Americans on Thursday in a 5-1 loss. Sweden went 2-0-0-1 and finished third in Group B during round-robin play, picking up wins against Italy and Slovakia. The Swedes' lone defeat came at the hands of the Finns on Friday.
